If you thought eating two slices of white bread was ‘getting your fibre’, think again!

So many of us grew up with the idea that if we ate a sandwich we’d be getting a super charged dose of fibre, but that isn’t necessarily true. In fact, biting into an apple will give you a huge hit of fibre, without the nasties…

But first, lets talk about what fibre is and why we need it!

What is it and why do we need fibre?

Keeping it real simple, fibre is the indigestible parts of plant foods (think veggies, fruits, legumes, grains and beans). It’s a type of carb (don’t run for the hills just yet) that helps to keep our digestive system in check.

There are two types of fibre, and both are super important.

Soluble fibre cannot be digested but it becomes a gelatinous substance as it passes through the body, helping to catch bacteria and debris on the way.

Insoluble fibre remains largely unchanged in the body throughout digestion and helps to add bulk to your number two’s (if you have toilet troubles, insoluble fibre is your jam).

Fibre is so important as it adds critical support to your digestive system. Fibre helps food pass through your gut and also supports your body to remove the waste.

If you’re not getting enough fibre you can expect to be bloated, blocked up or super duper runny (sorry folks, we’re all friends here). A diet that is lacking in fibre can also lead to IBS and colitis, and it’s even been linked to colon cancer. YIKES.

What are the best sources?

White, sliced bread is not the best source of fibre, trust us on that one. If you want to supercharge your diet with healthy sources of fibre, look to start eating:

  • Beans
  • Bananas
  • Psyllium Husk
  • Corn
  • Broccoli
  • Cabbage
  • Rasberries
  • Oranges

And luckily, all those foods are delicious!!!

Why do you remove the fibre from your Cold Pressed Juice?

Now this is an interesting question, given that we’ve just told you how important fibre is. The reason we remove the fibre from our Cold Pressed Juice (by slowly pressing the produce until all the juice is extracted, leaving behind the roughage) is because without the fibre your blood stream can absorb all the live enzymes of the fruit or veg, without needing to expend energy on digestion.

When you’re cleansing, you’re focusing all your energy on healing and detoxifying, so you don’t want your body to be spending much of it’s energy breaking down food (and it does; digestion is a huge but worthy tax on the body).

In short, drinking Cold Pressed Juice is like getting a high octane injection of nutrients, without your body working too hard for it. That’s why Cold Pressed Juice is ideal for cleansing, or for anyone who wants to get a hit of raw goodness straight away.

While we incorporate Cold Pressed Juice into our diet every day, we also make sure we’re getting a good dose of fibre (unless we’re cleansing of course) by snacking on wholefoods. We’re also never too far away from a bag of our Clean Sweep which is made from 100% organic Psyllium Husk.

If you’ve ever done a cleanse with us before, you would have gotten a few bags of this gold. Some people find that they get really blocked up during a cleanse, other’s don’t. But if you are feeling ultra blocked up and getting some discomfort, you can reach for your bag of Clean Sweep and give your system a little extra support without needing to digest bulky foods.

You can check out Clean Sweep here!

Have a beautiful day

That’s all from me, have a great day you juicy thang!
