Immunity Boosting Juices

We hear a lot about needing to support our immune systems, but what does that really mean, and what do we need to do to reap the full benefits? Read on to fully understand what your immune system is, what it requires, and which of our Cleanse Kitchen cold-pressed juices can best help support you.
What and where is our immune system?
By definition, your immune system is a network of cells, tissues, organs, and the substances they make, that helps the body fight infections and other diseases. The immune system includes white blood cells and organs and tissues of the lymph system, such as the thymus, spleen, tonsils, lymph nodes, lymph vessels, and bone marrow. That means all areas of your body, from your throat, to your armpits to your lower intestine down to your legs contain lymphatic nodes and vessels that are working hard to flush potentially harmful bacteria and diseases out of your body.
What does the immune system need?
In terms of vitamins and minerals, the immune system needs a healthy variety. This includes vitamins: A, B6, B12, C, D, E, and K; the minerals of copper, iodine, iron, magnesium, selenium and zinc; and folate (iron).
Getting enough vitamins and minerals through the foods and drinks you have is important to keep your immune system in check. A deficiency in any of these nutrients can weaken your immune system, which means you’ll be more likely to get infections and it’ll take longer to recover from them. Not ideal. For example, a deficiency in vitamin A can increase your susceptibility to infections, and a deficiency in vitamin E can impair your immune system.
The best cold-pressed juices for your immune system:
Sunrise - Orange and grapefruit are rich in vitamin C, one of the essential vitamins for your immune system. Ginger contains vitamins B6 and C, iron, magnesium, and zinc, which can help strengthen your immune system, as well as antioxidants, and gingerol, a natural compound that can help the body to fight germs that cause sore throats and muscle fatigue.
Dawn Patrol - Carrots are good for the immune system because they contain nutrients that can help reduce inflammation and oxidative stress, and modulate the immune system. These include vitamin A and C, and beta-carotene, an antioxidant and precursor to vitamin A that can help reduce inflammation and support the immune system. They also contain antioxidants to help the body fight cell damage, free radicals, and inflammation.
Ginger Snap - Lemon and ginger are excellent for your immune system when cold and flu season approaches, and combined with apple, you have a powerhouse of antioxidants. One lemon contains about half of the recommended daily value of vitamin C, which helps your body fight disease-causing oxidative stress. Plus, apples contains quercetin, an antioxidant that helps regulate your immune system and reduce inflammation.
And the best part? Although this special trio may be our favourite picks for immunity-boosting juice, ALL of our juices contain the vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants needed to support a healthy immune system. So, really, take your pick!
